6 Things I Enjoy from Becoming Unbusy
Unbusy simply means ‘Not Busy’.
I wasn’t aware of this lifestyle until the pandemic. Since then, I have embraced the idea of becoming unbusy and I have been living this way for more than a year now. It started as a lockdown, now it’s my lifestyle. These are some of the things I enjoy from becoming unbusy
1. A Productive Life.
Contrary to what society portrays as busyness, it is nothing close to productivity. If it was, I would have had more with me when we were on lockdown, but it was there I felt the lowest.
Productivity is the quality or state of being productive- doing or achieving a lot. I never had such an experience of productivity in my entire life until the lockdown. Before then, I wasn’t doing or achieving anything. I was distracted from this truth by my academics and when schools became closed because of the pandemic, I saw how unproductive I have been.
2. I Have Had More Time for Myself.
Pre-lockdown, I had little or no time for myself. I knew little about myself: my strengths, weaknesses, and hobbies. I was always busy with one thing or the other.
During the lockdown, I had much time to myself, so much that I’ll always look for activities to while away time- you shouldn’t do that, be intentional about how you spend your time. It took me a while to get used to the amount of time I had and use it purposefully but as soon as I learnt it, I had more time for myself.
3. I Have Become More Purposeful.
I have been writing articles for some years now, but it wasn’t until the lockdown that I decided to own a blog. I have had time to search myself and get to know myself better and become purposeful in how I live my life. I can say to some extent, that I have found the purpose for my life, and I am living a fulfilled life.
4. It Has Increased My Creativity.
When creativity is being spoken of, I had always thought of it as having a lot of talents and being good at so many things, which I wasn’t. I thought I was not and cannot be creative. Sincerely, I wasn’t, not till I became knowledgeable of who I was. Becoming unbusy gives me the time to think and birth ideas that I couldn’t do before. I became more creative with my writing and my life.
5. I Have Connected with More People.
Contrary to how it sounds, I have connected with more people when I started living an unbusy life than when I was busy. I was always caught up in one activity or the other that leaves me exhausted. Now, I spend more time with my family, friends and even people I have never met before.
6. I Live a Simpler and Happier Life.
I live a simpler life because I have fewer engagements and less stress. I don’t have to struggle with anxiety as often as before. I work according to my priorities and I don’t have a lot going on in my life, giving me space to relax. I am happier because I spend more time with family and friends than with activities, and I have created more hobbies, explored, and lived more.
Don’t buy the idea that busyness equals productivity, because it doesn’t. You can be as busy as a bee and be as unproductive as a lazy person.
