5 Ways To Keep Your Peace
There have been times in our lives when we feel overwhelmed and exhausted, that all you want is Peace. You’ve probably been caught up in life troubles and it’s slowly eating you up, stealing your Joy and Peace.
Peace is the state of being calm or quiet. It is a state of not being disturbed or worried. Peace is a period in which there is no war or violence in an area. It is living in friendship with somebody, without arguing.
This Peace I write about is not limited to your relationships with people or relationships between countries, it is spread out to the relationship with yourself. It is a period of time in which there is no war or violence within yourself. It is living in friendship with not only others, but yourself too.
We’ve all been in situations that have stolen out Peace, that have left us with nothing but worries and war within ourselves and with others, and most of the times, we don’t even realize it.
THINGS THAT STEAL YOUR PEACE
UNFORGIVENESS: It is the unwillingness to forgive someone, it is not forgiving someone. Whether you believe it or not, unforgiveness steals your peace and leaves you with unhealthy anger, grudges that makes you restless, especially when you remember your offenders or how you were offended. It doesn’t only work that way, but inward also.
When you don’t forgive yourself, it’s worse. As much as unforgiveness makes you mad at a person, it makes you mad at yourself also, and then left with self-hate, denial of self-care, love and lots more.
ANXIETY: Itself is an uneasiness of mind caused by fear. It makes us feel threatened and unsafe. It is not only just a mental illness, it is being anxious, agitated, nervous or obsessed about certain events or desires.
In moments when we are being anxious and at war with other and within ourselves, we find ourselves restless and stripped off of our Peace.
HEALTH ISSUES: The emergence of the Covid-19 Virus is a proof that health issues are a way our Peace is taken from us. The arrival of the virus brought fear, which in turn stole our Peace. People died, not from the virus, but from the restlessness the fear of contracting the virus brought.
Not only physical illnesses but mental illnesses too. Mental illnesses such as depression, PTSD, OCD are known to cause restlessness to those who suffer from it. A person disturbed with Bipolar Depression cannot enjoy their peace without been dragged into a depressed state.
5 WAYS TO KEEP YOUR PEACE.
1. FORGIVE OTHERS AND YOURSELF.
Forgive people who have wronged you, whether they are sorry or not. Forgive yourself for the mistakes you’ve made in the past and in the present. Forgive your actions and inactions, the things you did, the things you didn’t do. The things you did and say that you regret. Forgive for your peace of mind.
2. DEAL WITH YOUR ANXIETY.
Be conscious of the moments you are anxious, whether of an event or a desire, it’s the only way to deal with your anxiety. If you show symptoms of any anxiety disorders, it is advisable to see a therapist.
3. TAKE CARE OF YOUR HEALTH.
And by health, I mean both physical and mental health, let none of them be ignored. Absence of health issues in an individual invites peace to the person as he/she wouldn’t have to worry about it.
4. INVOLVE IN RELAXING ACTIVITIES.
It could be reading a book or listening to music. Whatever relaxes you and makes you calm; cooking, painting, playing an instrument, journaling or just resting, DO IT.
5. BE HOPEFUL.
Hope has a way of putting your life back together. It is a ray of light is a dark room, it points out a way out of the tunnel. Hope give reasons to go on. So the next time you feel out of Peace, worried and restless, believe that things are going to work out just fine, and you’ll them do.
Peace is not the absence of troubles, it is calmness in the midst of troubles.
